These 2D and 3D cellular detonation calculations won the Gordon Bell Prize at Supercomputing 2000. Here is the winning paper bell.pdf, and its science journal form cell2d.pdf.

Here are some of the images and movies from the 2D runs.
The composition is pure carbon and the density is 1e7 g/cm**3.
A real detonation has a rich cellular structure quite unlike the simple 1D picture.
